Welcome to Business & Computing

Business Studies and Computer Science is delivered to all pupils in the school by an experienced and enthusiastic small team of staff.

All pupils have access to filtered Internet content. They are able to log onto and access their work outside school by logging onto www.kirkhallamacademy.co.uk . The department has 3 dedicated suites all equipped with a variety of software, including Microsoft Office and specialist Computer Science software.

In Key Stage 3, all pupils receive at least 1 lesson of Computer Science and Digital Literacy per week. A range of topics are taught across the key stage including E-Safety, presenting information, coding and programming, and an induction to Logic and Computational Thinking.

In Key Stage 4 (including Year 9) students have the option to take an GCSE Computer Science.

In Key Stage 5 students have the opportunity to continue at our excellent Sixth Form by studying A Level Business Studies and Computer Science.

Every lesson you will be expected to bring the following:

  • Pen
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Eraser
  • Exercise book
  • Revision Guide (KS4/5 only)

This equipment should be regularly checked so that students are ready to learn.

Homework is set regularly and is inline with the content that is studied in class. For KS3 and 4, homework is set through: diagnosticquestions.com . It is expected that homework is completed before the due date. Students are welcome to complete this work in school, after school by arrangement with their teacher.

Use of Computers

  • If technical problems occur, alert a member of staff. Do not attempt to rectify the problem yourself.
  • Treat all equipment with respect.

  • No games!

When students use the Internet it is essential that they are responsible for their actions in accessing networked services. All users of this facility will be expected to abide by the rules of its use.

The Kirk Hallam Academy computer facilities should not be used for the following:

  • Sending or displaying offensive messages or pictures
  • Accessing undesirable material
  • Violating copyright laws

  • Trespassing in another's folder, work or files
  • Intentionally wasting limited resources (including time e.g. offensive or unwanted e-mail)
  • Employing the network for commercial purposes
  • Any use of the network that would bring the name of the school into disrepute
  • Interfering with the functioning of the network in the school, the service provider’s network, or any other network that can be accessed through the Internet.
  • Attempting to gain unauthorised access to any computer system, network data or resource.
