Every child's educational journey is unique, and I am delighted that you have chosen Kirk Hallam Community Academy to share that journey with you. We are a proud and aspirational school at the heart of our community and look forward to working in partnership with you to ensure your child reaches their potential.

Since recently joining the academy, I have been genuinely impressed by the caring nature of our school community, the ambition of our pupils and staff and the determination they share to achieve. As a proud member of the Nova Education Trust, we firmly believe that we embody the trust motto 'Work Hard, Be Kind'. This simple message lies at the heart of everything we do.

All our children deserve the very best educational experience and our ambitious curriculum and holistic pastoral care provide excellent foundations for learning and success. At Kirk Hallam, we are passionate about the development of the 'whole child', where pupils can reach their academic potential and develop their character skills and leadership qualities in equal measure.

As year 6 progresses, you may have lots of questions about what's to come next year and how secondary education compares to primary school. I hope that the information here in the portal will help develop your understanding of life at Kirk Hallam and we look forward to welcoming our prospective pupils during the summer term and getting to know lots more about them.

Absence: Guide for Parents and carers

What do I do if…

…I know in advance that my child will be away from school, for example for a dental or doctors appointment?

Unavoidable medical appointments: We expect pupils to be in school prior to and after their appointments. Medical appointments should not take all day. Where possible, appointments should be made before/after school or during the school holidays.

If you do wish to remove your child for an appointment, a note with appointment card should be sent to the Main Office with your child in the morning or you can contact the Main Office directly through the Academy number on 01159301522.

…I wish to take my child away on holiday during term time?

We do not authorise holidays during term time. If you do wish to request permission to remove your child from school for the purpose of a holiday, a form must be requested from the Main office or downloaded (see link below).

Parents/carers need to be aware that we will request a Penalty Notice for any requested holiday. If found that a student was removed for the purpose of a holiday without permission a Penalty Notice will also be requested, even after the pupil has returned from the holiday.

…My son/daughter is away from school and no prior notice has been given?

If your son/daughter is too unwell to attend school, please contact the Main Office on the morning of the absence. If you have not made contact with school to inform us of the reason, we will make every effort to contact you firstly by telephone/text and then by letter. A home visit may also be made by the Pastoral Manager-Attendance.

For any attendance issues, please contact us on 0115 9301522

Parents can help ensure that the school has accurate contact details by informing the school if there are any changes to phone numbers etc. during the year. Please complete a Student Information Form which can be found on the website and return to the school main reception.

Q: What does my child need to bring to school on their first day?
