Curriculum Intent

PE Curriculum Intent

Our Physical Education Curriculum aims to inspire students to acquire a love for sport, a passion to be physically active and the desire to participate in life long physical activity.

Students will build upon and embed skills, knowledge and understanding previously learned becoming more competent, confident and expert in their techniques. Students will be taught to use a range of tactics and strategies to overcome opponents in direct competition through team and individual games. Activities are diverse, providing variety and breadth, these include invasion games, striking and fielding, net and wall, gymnastics, dance, fitness, athletics and OAA.

PE lessons are also dedicated to developing transferable life skills. Our curriculum is the vehicle that provides a journey of self-improvement and character development and therefore preparing students for life. Students develop teamwork, leadership, officiating and self-awareness skills through participating in sport and physical activity within lessons and our extra –curricular programme.

Our curriculum is responsive and adaptive because we believe that if students discover what they like to do and enjoy PE they are more likely to make informed choices about being active and develop healthy lifestyle habits. Therefore, in years 7 and 8 students are given the opportunity to experience a vast range of different activities and in years 9, 10 and 11 activities are deliberately chosen to meet the needs of our students in order to foster high levels of engagement, activity and enjoyment and therefore developing fitness and building positive relationships with exercise.

The curriculum design has been developed with the ultimate aim of students enjoying their PE lessons aswell as building character, confidence and courage so they are equipped to embrace the wider world with respect, self – dignity and have ownership over their future.
