Option PE Curriculum
KS4
At the end of year 9 students have the opportunity to select an examinable course in PE from two strands, the vocational OCR Cambridge National Sports Studies or AQA GCSE PE.
GCSE PE has a combination of theoretical elements which are assessed through 2 exams in year 11 and a practical section of the course, which considers an individual’s sporting performance in 3 areas. Paper 1 covers the human body and movement in physical activity and sport, while paper 2 takes account of socio-cultural influences and well-being. Within the course we aim to embed cultural capital with use of real world examples through sporting topics.
Cambridge National in Sport Studies will encourage students to think for themselves about the study of sport and the application to real life practical sport, leadership and evaluation of the skills required there. They will study topics affecting sport through the contemporary issues unit, both play and lead sporting activities, as well as having the chance to explore the world of sport and the media. This course is assessed through one exam on contemporary issues and 2 coursework units, one which involves practical.
