Kirk Hallam Community Academy open new science labs

Kirk Hallam Community Academy, part of Nova Education Trust, celebrated the opening of their newly refurbished science labs last week.

Four first-floor labs and a ground-floor lab with top-spec facilities have been built to enable students across all year groups to access inspiring practical science lessons. The space to innovate and experiment will encourage students’ high aspirations to study science and increase opportunities for all students within school.

The new labs will complement Kirk Hallam’s already successful science curriculum, in which all students taking Biology achieved a grade A or A* at A-level in 2022.

Funded by Nova Education Trust at a cost of around £475,000, the labs were opened by His Worship the Mayor, Councillor John Sewell BEM & Mayoress Mrs Rose Sewell, attended by councillors John and Linda Frudd in a ceremony involving school staff, trust colleagues and students.

Chris Turner, Headteacher, said of the new labs that ‘As part of our continued effort to set high expectations, students deserve excellent learning environments. Our new science labs will be spaces where students’ curiosity can blend with quality teaching to establish a love of learning within the subject of science.’

Sandy Paley, Executive Headteacher, commented that ‘At the Nova Education Trust we believe that teachers and students are entitled to work together in inspiring and vibrant classrooms, and the brand new labs at Kirk Hallam will facilitate this. We look forward to realising the benefits of this project as students experience greater enjoyment in their learning, are motivated to learn more, aim high and ultimately achieve academic success beyond what they thought possible.’
