Maggie Throup MP visits KHCA

Maggie Throup, MP for Erewash, visited Kirk Hallam Community Academy last week to meet with the Headteacher, Mr Turner.
The visit included a tour of the academy including the refurbished science labs and on-site natural science facilities, both of particular interest as Mrs Throup was previously Minister for Vaccines and Public Health during the pandemic. Whilst visiting the recently renovated Learning Resource Centre, Mrs Throup took the opportunity to speak to some of our student library volunteers as well as members of staff.
In their meeting, Mr Turner and Mrs Throup discussed the importance of our outward-facing approach to our position in the local community. They also discussed the events in place to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Kirk Hallam Community Academy and the remarkable journey the school has been on over the last half a century.
Mr Turner said ‘we were delighted to welcome Maggie to our academy to highlight our recent school improvement work. The development of reading across the academy is a core priority and it was fantastic to hear our students and staff talk so positively about the new library facilities. As always, we were extremely proud of how our students presented themselves and the pride they show for their school.’
