Welcome to Expressive Arts

The Expressive Arts Department consists of Art, Music, Drama and Photography taught across Key Stage Three, Four and Five.

Expressive Arts plays a vital role in enabling students to enhance their creative talent and develop their artistic skills. By engaging in experiences within the Expressive Arts, students will recognise and represent feelings and emotions, both their own and those of others. The students experiences within Expressive Arts plays a central role in shaping their sense of our personal, social and cultural identity whilst supporting them to recognise, value and appreciate the variety and vitality of culture locally, nationally and globally.

Through Expressive Arts, students are encouraged to be creative and expressive in a variety of different ways such as group work, independent work and performing to an audience. It allows students to experience enjoyment and contribute to other people’s enjoyment through creative and expressive performance, presentation and observation. Students are able to develop important skills specific to Expressive Arts and skills which are transferable to other subject areas in school and their life outside of school.

The subjects within Expressive Arts are rich and stimulating, with the capacity to engage and fascinate students of all ages, interests and abilities.

How to help your child achieve in Expressive Arts

All students will be set regular independent learning which aims to extend the work being done in class. An important skill for students in KS3 is learning how to research effectively, this is a requirement of the GCSE courses that we study. Therefore, often homeworks will focus around finding out information about an artist, musician or practitioner that they are studying in class.

Students are also invited to attend our numerous extra curricular activities. The timetable for this will be updated in the new year.
